Searching #75 Google & Beyond
BlindSearch - My search included "Baby Booties", "Chocolate Frosting" and "Trent Reznor". Yahoo came up twice and Google the other. I use Google 95% of the time Learned that Trent Reznor probably doesn't like Cherry Coke..Dad took him out to tell him, his mother and him were splitting up over a soft drink...sad. I am comfortable using Google, always room to search another engine or two.
Google placed high on Hitwise. Facebook, Yahoo!Mail, and the Yahoo! placed after Google.
I'm impressed with all the features that are avaiable on Google: Earthquakes, Calcuator, Telephone number searching, People profile and Spell check and more.

Crafts & Hobbies #65: Coin Collecting
The U. S. Mint's website, It was looking for a car on-line without any idea of where to begin. Who knew there were programs of First Spouse Gold Coin Program. I knew about the penny getting a face lift.
I was excited, when the 50 state Quarters came out looking for each state as it was released, for the first 25 states. We have the two official books to place the Quarters as they were released. Then it was just too much work. Not having change on me was one reason. My husband and daughter usually carry cash.
I searched Google maps and discovered a coin shop, Karen's Coins & Custom Jewelry at
7979 N Eldridge Pkwy # 138. I will drive to this location and check it out. I have a $10 Liberty Platinum Coin. I was impressed with what I saw in the Red Book. This book was easy to use.
I am not a Numismatist, my Grandfather and Dad and Brother-In Law are. I can remember my dad having us go through the coins he exchanged from the corner store. I was something us girls enjoyed doing. I have a few coins that I put somewhere I was hoping to take a picture of these coins, but I can not I don't know where they are. I searched for them this last weekend. Who knows maybe I will write about my scavenger hunt at a later date.

Crafts & Hobbies #66: Knitting and Crocheting
Yes, I do crochet. I'm not farmiliar with Tunisian crochet. My sister and I participated in the Hats for Chemo. I knitted scrafs for everyone in my family before KAT was born. I learned to crochet from a wonderful person at Clayton Library, on my lunch break. She handed me a ball of yarn and a crochet needle. I knitted at the time. I noticed how fast she was at producing a completed project. She didn't have to read intructions everytime she finished a row of stitches. I'm left handed, so I had to reverse the stitches way back when I started. People told me to use a mirror. Eventually I got the hang of it..I really enjoy this assignment out of all so far.
I looked at the instructions for the Knitted Helmet Liner and Head Huggers –Crochet and Knit , probably will buy some yarn and work on these for our cold winter. To see a project side by side one is knitted and the same project crocheted. Someone had to put so thought into the second site.
We don't have a program here at Fairbanks. I could see myself and another co-worker spending a hour each, she knits and I crochet. We could teach and work on a project and help someone with a stitch or two.

Crafts & Hobbies #64: Zines
Well, I really have no interest in this one... I amazed to see a librarian having a site where she has a paypal account and is asking for money.. I don't draw at all. I doodle when talking to people on the phone at home, not so much at work. I don't make happy faces when sending a fax..they just don't come across as a happy face. Many, many years ago, I had to cut out a side and top and bottom of a cereal box and decorated it, rolled paper to fit inside the space that was cutout and draw pictures on the paper and I had to draw pictures that told a story...WAIT, that was elementary school...no time for stuff like this anymore.
If I could draw as nice as the artist in the zines I saw, maybe. My zine would be about my life lessons.
I don't see our library keeping up with zine journals and published works..maybe at a library that has a Art or a Journalism Department, I would see most of this stuff disappearing at our location. I there was a need for it the Young Adults would be making it know here.. I believe they are clueless.

Crafts & Hobbies #63: Digital Scrapbooking
I enjoy taking pictures. As the world of photography went digital, I did as well. I don't buy film anymore. We have printers and portable docking stations to instantly print a picture. I have about 10 un-opened rolls of film that have expired. I average about 50 to 70 pictures when our family is together on special events or gatherings.
The pictures that were developed, I gave the print away in a picture frame, to the persons or a family member. I kept the color negatives. During Christmas I would reordered sets to pictures and put in Christmas cards and mail.
I did not like this process. I guess with anything you do on a computer you take the chance of losing all the hard work you've done when your computer crashes. Scrap booking is one of these hobbies that you just need to make time. I guess this hobby is not for me right now.
